Renters Legal FAQ
'All the legal help a private renter will ever need'
To be the go-to provider of legal advice and services in England for private renters in England not eligible for legal aid
What we provide
Legal services for private renters anywhere in England. We start with a £150 assessment where our expert lawyers will review your case, and provide you with a solution if possible, including written legal advice. Should your case require more complex on-going legal support we will lay out all your options for you and discuss any further charges that may be incurred.
Why choose Renters Legal
We provide informed, impartial legal advice & legal services, including representation at court where necessary, and have been doing so for over 30 years. As part of a charity, we focus on results, not making a profit.
How do I start using Renters Legal? How does it work?
You contact us via the online form and outline your problem. We will reply within one working day to let you know what we will need from you in order to advise you properly. If the answer to your problem is very simple, we will help free of charge. If we need to examine your problem in greater detail, we will ask you to supply all the relevant information and documents; you will also need to make a payment of £150 including VAT. Be assured you won’t get better expertise and value for money elsewhere. Should your case be outside the scope of our £150 package we will advise you of any relevant costs.
What happens then?
With our standard £150 package, a lawyer will provide you with a clear, concise and detailed written explanation of your position and what you need to do next. Should your case require more complicated ongoing legal work, this may involve further costs.
What do you mean by further costs?
We provide a detailed ‘how to proceed’ plan for each individual case, based on your specific needs and with relevant costings, should you wish to continue using our service. These are payable before we can proceed further.
Can I deal with someone in person rather than via e-mail?
You are more than welcome to get advice in person at the Advice4Renters offices in Kilburn, London. On-site visits are charged at an hourly rate of £100 (inc VAT). We recommend completing an online enquiry before arranging a face to face visit.
What if I don’t want to proceed further with Renters Legal?
You are free to follow any course of action you choose, as at every stage where a financial outlay is required we will clearly inform you of your alternatives and the choices available.
Can you guarantee a positive outcome for me?
No, as in all legal matters the outcome cannot be guaranteed in advance. What we can do is provide you with the best possible impartial advice based on our long experience in the sector, and assure you that all of us at Renters Legal will do our best for you!
